This is a story attributed to a very famous and well-known saint. Hazrat Abu Burda R.A. is a narrator. When the time of death of Hazrat Abu Musa Ashari R.A. was near,he said to his sons,O sons, remember the rotiwala. Then he himself narrated the story of who that rotiwala was.He said that there was a person who worshipped Allah for 70 years. He worshipped Allah for a long time. But after 70 years, when he came out, the devil misled him and he became involved in the mischief of a woman. He stayed with that woman for 7 days and 7 nights.
He did the wrong thing. Now he was again ashamed of what he had done.He worshipped Allah for 70 years and spent these 7 days and 7 nights in sin. He was very ashamed, very regretful. He kept prostrating at every step, kept repenting. Now, while walking, he reached a guest house. There were 12 poor people lying there. He made a place for them and he fell down and fell asleep. Now at night, a person came who used to give them food. He brought 12 rotis one by one. He knew that there were 12 poor people living here. He started giving rotis to everyone one by one. The person who came here and suddenly came in the middle and lay down, he also considered him poor and gave him roti. But of course, if he kept giving roti in order, the last number did not get roti. Because they were 13. So that poor man said to the distributor, why didn't you give me roti today? He said, I gave roti to everyone, not to anyone. He said, you are not giving me roti. He got angry and said, if you think that I am being dishonest, then I will not give you anything. Saying this, that person left. But that poor man was left hungry. Now the person who had just repented, had also worshipped for the first 70 years, he thought that because of me, this poor man did not get roti. He was hungry, but he gave that roti to him. He was very hungry. He suffered from hunger all night.
And in this state of hunger, he passed away in the morning. Hazrat Abu Musa Ashari says that when this person reached Allah's court, he was worshipped for 70 years on one side, and on the other side, he was kept for 7 days and 7 nights. So he said that the sin was more than 70 years of worship. Now it could have been a command for him to go to hell. But in front of those 7 days of sin, that roti was kept. And with the blessing of that roti, because it was offered with sincerity, the poor man was helped, those big sins of 7 days were forgiven. And he went to heaven. Then he said to his children, Son, remember the roti seller. This incident really touches the strings of the heart. We have to learn two things. Sometimes some people say that I cannot be misled. I am in a very good environment. Satan has misled the elders. We will have to make our company good.
We will have to ask Allah for protection from Satan. And we will have to be afraid of ourselves. That no, I too can be involved in sins. Even I should not commit a bigger sin. Keep repenting. Keep being afraid. Keep fear. And have a good company. And the second thing. Sadqa erases the sins. Sadqa is very much liked in Allah's court. Helping the poor is very much liked by Allah. We also need to help our poor neighbors, relatives, and poor Muslims from time to time.
